Mom's Kitchen

Kate and I emptied all the cupboards in the kitchen and this afternoon Laura and Chris came to look at vintage Corning Ware, glass pie plates, knife sharpeners, sieves, vintage bread pans, whisks, strainers and cookie cutters. I emailed my three daughters and their requests shot back. Kate and I'd already selected things and put some items aside for John.
Mom was such a great cook, a wonderful baker. Weird to see her kitchen dissembled so quickly. She'd be sick about it, except for the fact that she'd like her children and grandchildren to have the tools she used for decades.

Thanks, Mom. This afternoon, everyone was remembering those remarkable meals, the Monday lunches, the Christmas and Thanksgiving feasts, the Saturday morning homemade donuts, the late-night batch of pink fudge, the comfort food called mac and cheese, Bama's beans and thousands of freshly baked warm cookies.
May we carry on with your cookie sheets, iron skillets and measuring cups.
