Just got a link to an open letter to the President of SUNY Albany after he dropped Humanities as part of the curriculum for 'cost cutting reasons' and because, he said, enrollment in these classes was so low.
Read it and then ask yourself if you see a connection between this and what is happening politically in America these days and the lack of a truly educated thinking population? Our populace is easily swayed and never appears to me to have 'reasoned' decisions for voting or speaking on the issues of the day. Who or how many people ever 'think analytically' anymore? Folks today seem to make decisions based on raw fear based emotions. Who needs facts? Who needs to see relationships among the facts? Who can draw conclusions from a series of facts? Who can take the facts and strategically outline? Who can discuss context and nuance when looking at 'the facts'?
The other day I heard a phrase that describes a lot of folks these days: "They are the adamantly uninfromed." I'd say that about sums it up.
